Reading Club & Alumni Reading Club 2023/2024 School Year

Reading Club: A one-on-one reading tutor program provided by the Parentis Foundation where elementary school aged children receive weekly help to attain grade level reading skills.

Alumni Reading Club: This club is made for students that were once a part of our reading club provided by the Parentis Foundation. This an opportunity for the members to play games and connect with past tutors and friends all while reading and learning!

AVAILABILITY:

Via Positiva (SJC), Aliso Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita

  • Elementary age kids and reading club alumni

  • Reading Club: Monday-Thursday 2:30pm-4:00pm during the school year

  • Alumni Reading Club: Every other Thursday 4:00pm-4:45pm


Power Hour - 2023/2024 School Year

Making Minutes Count helps Club members ages 7-18 achieve academic success by providing homework help, tutoring, and high-yield learning activities and encouraging members to become self-directed learners. 

AVAILABILITY:

Via Positiva (SJC), Aliso Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita

  • Ages: 1st through 12th Grade

  • During the School Year


Tutoring - 2023/2024 School Year

For 1st-5th graders, staff and volunteers take members aside to help them with homework. If the members completed their homework they work on vocabulary, math facts or reading to improve their knowledge. For teens, staff and volunteers assist members with their homework and any additional skills needed to complete their school work.

Healthy Habits - Fall 2023

The Healthy Habits Program helps Elementary age members in developing healthy habits early on that can contribute to their well-being. This program addresses the five pillars of health, eating and hydration, movement, mind, sleep, and environment. This will help members to sleep better, to eat healthier foods, being more aware of their feelings, finding ways to exercise that is fun and engaging, and learning how to concentrate better.

  • Time: Tuesdays 1 PM - 2 PM


Current Events - Fall 2023

The Current Events Program is for learning about current events while also developing research skills early on. Each week will be a different theme of current events, including topics such as Space & Global news. After they learn about each current event, they will be able to conduct their own research about the current event they just learned about or new current event that is a part of the theme for that week. Towards the end of the program, they will make posters of their current events that they can display for the Boys and Girls Club.
